BRAVE little CANADIANS

At Brave little Canadians, we are a 100% volunteer run organization consisting of nurses, medical mamas, sewists, and local businesses. We donate superhero capes, badges, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) BRAVE hearts to children facing medical battles, providing them with a sense of empowerment and courage during their healthcare journey. Our mission is to bring joy, hope, and inspiration to these young children, helping them feel like the superheroes they truly are.

Canadian volunteers sew handmade superhero capes that are donated by our organization to Canadian children's hospitals and directly to families. We are continuing to update our cape fabric and designs. Contact us below to inquire about how you can obtain a donated cape for a loved one. Capes come in 2 different sizes: size 0-2 years and size: 3-8 years. Tracked shipping throughout Canada via Canada Post (costs buyer approximately $15-20 per shipment). 

Badges can be purchased at the AdaptAbility store in Calgary (scroll down to learn more). Badges serve to individualize a Brave little Canadian's superhero cape and can tell their unique medical story. Badges can be ironed on to capes or glued on with fabric glue. Tara noticed there weren’t any local brick-and-mortar stores to go see, touch, and try products for children with special needs. Viewing a product in person versus an online store, allows the customer to determine if the product is ideal for their child’s specific needs (texture, sizing, etc). Thus, her idea for the AdaptAbility store was born. 

 BRAVE Hearts are given to parents whose infants are cared for in the NICU. Parents wear these hearts next to their skin for several hours, so the hearts can absorb their scent. A BRAVE heart can be worn inside a bra or pinned to the inside of a blouse or shirt. The hearts are then taken to the NICU and placed in the baby's incubator or bassinet. Infants can continue to bond with their parents even when the parents are unable to be present. BRAVE Hearts are handmade by our incredible sewing volunteers, using the scrap material left over from making superhero capes. They are a cotton/polyster blend.
